Interview with Indy Baldwin Flint

In this first week of the new year, we’re starting with something fresh: character interviews. First up is the man who started it all: Indy Baldwin Flint. Indy, welcome to my blog.

Yeah, well, I could hardly say no, right? But you know I’m not a fan of shit like this, so let’s keep this short. I got better things to do, like, you know, spending time with Noah.

Spending time… I assume that’s a euphemism for sex?

[snorts] As if I ever need to resort to euphemisms in my house. Fuck, have you seen the people who live here? Does even one of them look like they’re shy about sex? Nope, didn’t think so.

Good point. So, let’s talk about you a little. You’re from Boston, right?

Yup, born and raised. In as far as I was raised since my mother didn’t exactly deserve an award for mother of the year, but whatever. Semantics.

Even though you now live near Albany, you still love Boston. What’s so great about that city?

What’s not to love? It’s got everything you need: Fenway Park, Gilette Stadium, history, shopping, the best sports teams in the world, the best people ever, and did I mention Fenway Park?

You did.

Well, the Red Sox deserve to be mentioned twice. I bawled my fucking eyes out when they won the World Series in 2004 and finally ended the curse of the bambino. We shoulda never traded Babe Ruth, man. Biggest mistake ever. Big. Huge.

Did you just…quote Pretty Woman?

[grins] It felt appropriate. Great movie, by the way. Fuck, Richard Gere was hot there.

Is he your type?

[looks almost offended] Dude, you’ve seen Noah, right? Does he remind you of Richard Gere in any way?

Erm, not really?

There’s your answer then. Just because I think he’s hot doesn’t mean that he’s my type or that I want him to fuck me.

Okay, crystal clear. Moving on. Any other movies you love?

[lights up] Legally Blond. It’s set in Boston, so there’s that, but it’s just perfect. Funny, witty, romantic, not to mention she’s got the best wardrobe ever and totally kicks ass in that courtroom. “Don’t stomp your little last season Prada shoes at me, honey.” That was brilliant deduction on her end. Plus, the bend and snap. I mean, you gotta love that…

So you like movies. What else?

Not just movies. Romantic comedies. I don’t do thrillers or horror or shit like that. Fuck, I’ve seen enough violence in real life. I don’t need to see that in a movie. Besides, they’re too violent for Josh. He can’t… They could trigger him, and I’m not gonna let that happen. Happy movies, with a happy ending.

Makes perfect sense. I’m right there with you, actually. Another hobby is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, right? Why jiu jitsu?

It’s the single best self defense in the world. Look, I had to learn to defend myself for reasons I won’t get into because you and I both know what happened. Not gonna rehash that. But being as I’m kinda short and lean compared to most guys, I needed something that would help me defeat bigger and stronger attackers. Jiu Jitsu does that. It doesn’t matter what you weigh, how tall you are, or what you build is, but if you learn Jiu Jitsu and apply those techniques, you’ll be able to fend off any assailant. I once beat an FBI agent who was quite proficient in kickboxing. On our feet, he would’ve beaten me, but once I took him to the ground, he never stood a chance.

That’s pretty sweet. How did that guy feel about it?

[shrugs] He was pissed off enough to try a dirty move, but I caught it in time. He was a total asshat anyway.

We have movies, jiu jitsu… What else do you love?

My family. Not my family by blood. Fuck no. I’m talking about the men who have become my family. Noah, Josh and Connor, Miles and his two boys, even Blake and Aaron. They’re the proof that the family you create, that you choose, is ten times worth more than being related by blood. Those men… We’d kill to keep each other safe. In fact… [his voice grows soft as he stares into the distance]… We have.

[Clears his throat] We’re done, right? You’ve got enough? Because I have important things to do, like being with my men… Besides, readers can read my story in the books you wrote about me, right? What’s the first one called again? Right, No Filter. Just start there. I’m an open book. Not really, but Nora did a good job writing down my story…

Thanks, Indy. If anyone has any more questions for Indy, drop a comment and I’ll make sure he answers them!

In ‘No Angel’ we hear how you set up a naughty wish list for you and your family. Which was your favourite wish and was this ever granted? If it was granted, was it all that you imagined it would be or better? (Let’s be honest here, it would never be worse than you imagined!)
