It’s time for our weekly poll! And my apologies for last week’s gaffe because I put an old link in my newsletter. As a result, we had way fewer votes, ouch. Totally my bad. Let’s not do that again this week, haha.
Last week, the question was “How Important Is Perfect Grammar/Spelling To You?” and I was really curious about this one, since I’ve heard such conflicting opinions… Here were your opinions:
Almost half of you stated that if the mistakes are occasional, you can live with it. But the other results made clear that that’s where the line is, because combined, even slightly more people said that mistakes really bothered them (20%) and they would stop reading if there were too many mistakes (29%). That’s an important lesson for us as authors, I think.
Let’s move on to this week’s question: “What profession do you like for the main characters?” For the first time, I’ve made it possible to put in your own answer, so let’s hear some ideas!

Since I could only choose one, I’d like to add my favorite trope along with cop or law enforcement… That would be Security or Protector.
I just changed the settings so you can choose multiple answers. Thanks for letting me know! That rebooted the poll, so could you vote again please? Thank you!
Thank you Nora. I just now voted again using one you prove and the “other” option… 👍
I don’t really care what kind of job they have have, as long as it fits the plot and character. For instance, I love forceful, protective characters of the type who are strong and assertive enough to be billionaires or criminals or in legal, law enforcement and medical fields – also I also love sweet, broken and introvert characters, who would have jobs that suit that personality type.
If the story is good, the profession doesn’t really matter to me. I’ve read stories with all of the above and can’t really say that the occupation has played much of a role in my enjoyment of the story.
I love all the options, but I get frustrated during a book when the MCs job seems to be such a small part of his life. Like 3 hours a day 2 days a week, not 8 hours a day, 5 days a week with travel time. They seem to have so much free time!
Job doesn’t matter as long as it’s reasonably accurate.
Unique jobs, like archeologist or professional thief
