It shouldn’t come as a surprise that I love me some ménage romances, considering I’ve written quite a few (No Shame, Heart, and the whole Irresistible Omegas series is MMMM and MMM). So I thought it would be fun to share some mini reviews of my favorite MMM gay romances, my own excluded of course, haha.
I’ve also asked the readers in my group for their favorite MMM gay romances, so we’ll share those in a next post.
Going Commando – K.M. Neuhold
In Going Commando, K.M. Neuhold didn’t just create an epic threesome, but also one of the most memorable characters ever: Royal. With a perfect mix of sweet, sappy, and hysterically funny, this is one I reread often. It’s part of the Heathens Ink series but can be read as a standalone.
Love Comes After – Kate Hawthorne
The relationships in this emotional read are wonderfully messy, but it makes the dynamic in Love Comes After perfect. An existing but struggling couple asks a third into their relationship to help revive it, but that leads to a whole lot of complications. Epic sex scenes, really well written.
The Rules – Jamie Fessenden
A young man starts as a cleaner in the home of an older, existing couple…and one of them is a moody Russian who loves to walk around naked in the house. If this sounds like fun, it really is, but The Rules has so much more: emotions, sweetness, steamy scenes, and ultimately, a deep, beautiful love.
Absolution – Sloane Kennedy
Absolution was one of the first MMM romances I ever read, and it became kind of the gold standard. A sort-f hitman is sent to kill a struggling artist but falls for him instead, while another man needs that same artist to provide answers into his sister’s death. When they come together it’s messy, emotional, sexy, and complicated, but oh, so good.
What are some of your favorite MMM gay romances?
Nora: I’m not “new” to your work, but just joined your mailing list and signed on to your website. I find MMM books fascinating, because the less than wonderful books in this genre have a tough time selling the idea that three people can come together and truly love one another without it complicating things between any two of the members of the thruple. So, when it’s done well….well, it takes someone who can sell us on how the relationships gel, and why we should believe one of the three isn’t just there as window dressing, and not as a full-fledged member of the relationship. I’ve read two of the four you’ve listed and couldn’t agree more that the Heathen’s Ink book and the Protector’s series book are both magnificent! I’m looking forward to adding the other two to my collection on your recommendation. Thanks for this post. MMM is a tough genre to write (I’m sure) and even tougher to really make readers believe it’s plausible. So glad to be part of your website family! Best wishes…DW
Thank you! I love MMM (both to read and to write), but I agree that it’s not easy to pull off. I’ve read quite the number of MMM+ where I felt one of the characters was the proverbial third wheel, or where I didn’t see why all three needed to be together. But when it’s done well, like in Going Commando, it’s magical.
Hello Norah. I read your irresistible omega series and No Shame and for me it’s still the best in the mmm, mmshifter, mmpreg and mmmm categories. I’m actually going through withdrawals lol. You crafted the series really well and I appreciate these recommendations. If you have more, please drop them. Especially mpreg and mmm+
Yay, thank you! This makes me so happy. Both are series I’m truly proud of…
